CST 334 - Week 8

It's the final week of the course and I've learned so much about operating systems in general, however the final part of the course focused on persistence. Persistence refers to the "characteristic of a state of a system that outlives (persists more than) the process that created it." What this looks like in an Operating System is ability of the OS to manage and maintain data over time, even if the system has been shut down, ensuring that the data is not lost and the system can recover. Last week, file systems were discussed at length and plays a key role in regards to persistence. File systems use various techniques to help make sure there is data integrity and that the metadata is not only recoverable, but retrievable. It allows the OS to help manage, organize, access and access data on storage devices.

What persistence means to students is the idea of not giving up and moving forward despite any obstacles. It's knowing that despite life getting difficult, you move ahead and do what you can to meet your goals. There are always challenges in life, but ultimately it's how you handle these challenges that matters.
