CST 311 - Week 1

This past week covered a lot of material that helped us with the programming assignment, labs, and quizzes. The first part of the course focused on setting up mininet, virtual box, wireshark and MobaXterm (for Windows). The readings for this week were really informative and provided a good introduction into what this course is going to be about: computer networks. What I felt was the most interesting part of the readings was the section on protocol layers and the internet protocol stack. It looks like there will be additional chapters on the transport and application layers, but the book provided a decent introduction into the topic. Another part of the course that I found interesting was the initial mininet lab where we had to provide a diagram showing the linear connection between the switches. I had to find some additional resources on how to complete the diagram, but it did help me visualize what exactly was occurring when typing in certain commands.
